When you think about pest control, most people tend to think of termites as a pretty small problem. Perhaps it’s because we can’t see them that we don’t really think of them as a major problem, but left alone, they can deliver a shocking amount of damage to your home. Termites are a major issue in Little Mountain, Buderim, Currimundi, and other areas of the Sunshine Coast, and if you don’t believe that to be true, then there is a story that you need to hear. It’s a scary one, and something that can happen to you if you don’t let the pest control pros take care of your home.
A couple of years back, a couple purchased a home in Buderim that they did not know was infested by termites. The couple paid the princely sum of $487,000 for the property, but soon learned the hard way that termites may be small, but they can do big damage. The little pests essentially chewed their way through the walls, and by the time they were done, they had inflicted over $100,000 of damage to the home, which was eventually listed as being unlivable by the insurance company overseeing it.
It’s a sad story indeed, especially since the new owners believed that they were getting a real bargain. The price that they initially paid was well below the $565,000 median price of houses in Buderim. The whole thing ended up being a total disaster, though, as the house was eventually out up for auction, where it sold for $360,000, well below the price that was initially paid. What may come as a surprise in all of this is that the new owner is not looking to tear down the property and start fresh.
Despite a total of 75% of the house being affected by the damage, the new owner is going to work on renovating the existing property. The good news is that the pest control pros who were called in have now taken care of the termites that did all the damage, which means that what is left over can indeed be worked on. The news of the termite free status of the home must have traveled fast, as more than 100 people went through the property, with a total of 14 registering to bid on the day of the auction.
Everyone involved in this story is in agreement that this all could have been very easily avoided if a termite inspection had been done beforehand. If you are not sure of the last time an inspection was done on your Sunshine Coast home, now is the time to schedule an appointment. It’s a job that can be done very quickly, and your home can be protected from the invading homes of termites who want to snack down on your property. Termite inspections generally only need to be done once per year, and it’s a small price to pay when it comes to protecting your investment.
